Speaker 2Good for us, because it has been a crazy week.

Speaker 2Okay, well, okay, okay, okay.
Speaker 1I didn't know if we had any other banter early on well, that was gonna be my banter, but if you wanted to be a part of the pits and pits.
Peaks and Pits: Moving Chaos
Speaker 2That's what's been going on in my life this week.
Speaker 1So yeah, all right, let's just get right into peaks and pits. So I guess we'll talk about the pits then.
Speaker 2Okay, do you want to go first? Do you want me to go first?
Speaker 1Well, to finish my thought, no, you don't need to. I was just going to say that I think that we should be proud of ourselves because it's been a hectic week. Yes, it has and it's going to get even more hectic the next couple weeks because we're moving next week. So by the time you listen to this, though, we would have already moved, so yes hopefully we'll have good things to report by then, but fingers crossed but it's just that that anticipation right now is a little bit chaotic.
Speaker 1I think joe is definitely taking the brunt. End of all the stress.
Speaker 2That's probably fair.
Speaker 1We love him for it, yep, but overall it's just causing chaos. I mean, the house is like in shambles.
Speaker 2Katie did have to vacuum. There were lots of little Lucys running around, and when we say little Lucys, she's a short-haired lab and so she sheds a lot. And her little dust bunnies collect, and we call them little Lucys.
Speaker 1Little Lucys. She's multiplying and they're running around.
Speaker 2We probably could have made a full-sized Lucy yeah.
Speaker 1I was going to wait it out because I was like I don't want to clean and it's just going to get dustier. But we literally were like floating on her hairs yeah, it was too much and the vacuum was filled to the brim after one vacuum of the house. Yeah, so it's just been crazy, and I'm like the kind of person that clutter affects me more than it should correct and it affects my attitude and my energy and our house is very cluttered really hard not to let it affect me.
Speaker 2Yeah, you're doing good. Did you say you're doing a good job? You're doing great, okay, good, yeah, so you're peeking pit.
Speaker 1That was the pit, I guess.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1My peek. I mean, I actually didn't have time to think about this.
Speaker 2Yeah, we only do it every episode.
Speaker 1I know, I know, but I don't actually, I don't really think I need to reflect, but then I get to it and I'm like I do have to reflect on this.
Speaker 2Do you want me to go and give you time to think?
Speaker 1No, no, no no, no, because now it's awkward.
Speaker 2I'm glad you said it. My peak would be she's stalling, ladies and gentlemen, she's stalling.
Speaker 1Now we feel nervous, ruh-roh, I don't know. Like there's not a specific thing I can think of, I think the anticipation is exciting to me it's crazy that you haven't talked about your actual peak what is my peak?
Speaker 2katie's peak is doing our pregnancy photos I actually just have memory loss yeah, that's kat's actual peak. She was very happy about it.
Speaker 1I really could not think about what had happened the past couple days or week. But you're so right, we did that. We did a pregnancy photo shoot in our new house yes, and it was like an empty house shoot, which I've always and we're going to fill it with so many memories and I've always wanted to do that and it was just perfect, because not having furniture in there I felt like made it like a blank slate, like it just, and I'm I think our photographer had a lot of fun yeah, she did good with it too well, hang on, we told we only took pictures in like the corner of the house that I feel like I know, know, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1Like it just felt like a studio. Like I felt like we were in a photography studio.
Speaker 2That's true, that's true, which is like every photographer's dream.
Speaker 1But gosh. I only know her last name, sarah Robles. What's her new? I don't know what her new last name is or her maiden name.
Speaker 2It'll be in the description, but that was a friend of mine that had taken our pictures and I love her and she's great, highly recommend.
Speaker 1She did our Christmas pictures too. She did. I already asked her if she could do our family photos in November.
Speaker 2Great, can't wait. No, those were good, though. That was a lot of fun. Yeah, sorry, thank you for Lucy put her like we had the dogs with us. And at one point Lucy got in. It was just like solos of you.
Speaker 1Lucy got in the picture and she put like she like rested her head on your shoulder and like put her paw on her on your belly well, we were trying to get her to rest her belly, rest her belly, rest her head on my belly for a cute little shot, and she would not cooperate. And finally she just got up and was like, clearly looked down with us and she just smacked her paw on my belly and she's like is this what you want?
Speaker 1yeah, it was like a perfect picture it was so cute though it was, the dogs are great. I'm just really excited for the pictures. Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 2You're welcome your turn uh, my peak and pit my pit is just moving is the worst and but specifically, like the moving is his, I feel like the moving honestly hasn't like packing up. We've like spread it out over so much time that it hasn't been terrible. Yeah, like. Yeah, our house is cluttered right now.
Speaker 2I hate mortgage companies and there's just the nonsense and the hoops you have to jump through for them, and I think one of my biggest pet peeves is like when people just wait till the last minute to tell you all these things that are really important. And that's what happens. I feel like when you buy a house, like you know, like I was calling our mortgage company, I would say once a week over the last like five or six weeks, just saying like what do you need for me here's when we want to close, what do you need for me here's when we want to close? What do you need from me here's when we want to close? And they're like, oh, it's fine, everything's great. Well, guess what? Uh, they didn't have everything they needed and we're closing on a different day than we wanted to yeah and I'm like this is so frustrating, like all you have to do is tell me what you need.
Speaker 2All you have to do is communicate. It's just it. It's very, very, very annoying.
Speaker 1Yeah Well, thanks for being a hero. That's my pick.
Speaker 2No problem. No problem, I would say, my peak, I don't know. Oh, I've seen two movies by myself this week and I think I'm about to get back into my going to the movies by myself phase I was jealous. I know Well, I mean, I offered you to go at least to one of the movies with me.
Speaker 1I can't just be like sorry, ladies, I can't come to a women's group because I need to watch Superman.
Speaker 2But you can.
Speaker 1It's just women's group, I know but I want to go to a women's group, that's fair.
Speaker 2Well, I wanted. It's just like oh, so I? No, I'm going to go see Superman. It was pretty good. Well, I'm happy for you. I just love going to the movies. Let me phrase this If I could go to the movies, I would, of course, prefer to go with you. However, I love going to the movies by myself, like, especially when I'm traveling. Like if I can like, if I'm traveling, there's nothing for me to do. I can hit like a 5.30 movie somewhere, like right before you know, grab like a quick bite to eat, go see a movie and then just go back to my hotel room. Absolutely love it.
Speaker 1Well, luckily you are on the road a lot and you absolutely can do that.

Speaker 2We um. This is our episode number two of Count the Fruit Katie.
Speaker 1Our little segment.
Speaker 2It's on the Gospels for the month of July.
Speaker 1Yeah, so if you haven't had time or have looked through the Gospels at this time it'll probably be August, so you would have actually heard them if you went to Mass. Here are our little thoughts and what we reflected on reading through them.
Speaker 2Yeah, so do you want to read the first gospel Sure? All right, so this was for July 6.
Speaker 1It was Luke, chapter 10, verses 1 through 12 and 17 through 20. After this, the Lord appointed 70 others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way, see, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves, carry no purse, no bag, no sandals and greet no one on the road.
Speaker 1Whatever house you enter, first say peace to this house and if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person, but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide for. The laborers deserve to be paid. Do not move about from house to house.
Speaker 1Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome, you eat what is set before, you cure the sick who are there and say to them the kingdom of God has come near to you. But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off and protest against you. Yet know this, the kingdom of God has come near. I tell you, on that day it will be more tolerable for Sodom than for that town. The 70 returned with joy, saying Lord, in your name, even the demons submit to us. He said to them. I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning. See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this that the spirit submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

Speaker 1Yeah, I have always really liked this gospel. Yeah, it's a great gospel. I feel like a lot of the gospels this month have been pretty key gospels. Sometimes I feel like they're kind of random.
Speaker 2In July. Yeah, in July, I agree.
Speaker 1But these have been a lot of lessons that have been reiterated over time.
Speaker 2I wonder if this is. I didn't look any of this up because I remember, you know, we had the month of solemnities last month, every solemnity going on. But I wonder if there's a through line for the month of July of like, I don't know, evangelist teaching kind of is what it feels like.
Speaker 1Yeah, that definitely does feel like the themes throughout the gospels.
Speaker 2But I don't think they theme Gospel to Gospel in the ordinary time.
Speaker 1I don't think so. Maybe it just happened to work out that way.
Speaker 2I mean ultimately, it's not like whoa. Did you hear this Gospel's about spreading the Word of God? Would you believe that?
Speaker 1No way.
Speaker 2It's a through line there.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2No, I really like this gospel. I think I you. I know you have some stuff highlighted, but I'll say the thing that stuck out to me the first time I read it, um is, uh, it's actually the line do not move about from house to house. Um, and and then you know, it says whenever you are excuse me, the one before that says remain in the same house eating and drinking. Whatever they provide for the laborer deserves to be paid. Um, do not move about from house to house.
Speaker 2I think what sticks out to me is when you take it in context to that gospel being about hey, go, you know, minister to towns, minister to people. I think it just it brings to mind for me that, like we need to be focused on an individual and or or a group of people or a family, like when we go out and try to convert the world. If you just start shouting on the rooftops for people to believe in god, you know that's a wonderful thing, but you're not actually being intentional with it. And I think that what Christ is saying here is be very intentional with who you're ministering to and stay with them until the job is done.
Speaker 1Yeah, I think I read that line and I thought I think about going to visit somebody, staying in their place and their space and just how uncomfortable it is Like if it's not your safe space and how much you probably are like gosh, I just want my own bed, I want my own food and I want to do things my way and as a missionary church, which I feel like. That, ultimately, is what this gospel is highlighting. We have to spread the gospel and a lot of what that looks like is being uncomfortable in that situation, because chances are, it is an uncomfortable scenario where you are trying to evangelize and reach people. It requires you to stay where you are, stay out of your comfort space, yeah, but what's interesting is, I see what you're saying about, like, hey, you have to be out of your comfort space.
Speaker 2Yeah, but what's interesting, is it? Kind of I see what you're saying about, like, hey, you have to be out of your comfort zone, but the way you phrase that, like when you go and stay at somebody else's house. The other thing I realized is there's so much time, like, if you go visit somebody and you stay at a hotel, you miss a lot of like. My mom always talks about this with Fourth of July. If people aren't staying at the house, you miss a lot of like. My mom always talks about this with fourth of july. If people aren't staying at the house, you miss a lot of like, the, the fun time I don't know how to describe it, but like when you stay at somebody's house, there's a lot of um, just those moments of like waking up in the morning and like I don't drink coffee.
Speaker 2Yeah, well, not even a day-to-day, I guess, but like the, the small routine, I don't know like when you have your morning coffee with people, or when you know when you're all together, or you know at late at night when people are getting ready for bed and everybody's just kind of hanging out on the couch or you're playing a game or something like that. Um, and I feel like when you trans like translate that to ministry or to evangelization yes, of, of course, like the liturgy, the mass, that's the most important stuff. But there's a lot of really powerful evangelization done kind of on the margins, when you're just hanging, you're just with someone, right, you're with someone in their space. That's a really powerful time to spread the word with someone.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's a really good point. I think, like those mundane activities is where people feel the most loved. You know you can't just be like this is the gospel and you need to repent. Like what?
Speaker 2am I repenting for that's a great point um.
Speaker 1Another thing that I highlighted was peace to this house, and if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person, but if not, it will return to you, and I love this idea of how, like, peace is something you can share.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1And just like, ultimately I don't know I feel like peace and joy and all the fruits of the spirit are contagious and just by being that presence to somebody like you can share that peace with them.
Speaker 2Uh, I just love like the idea that I don't know, like that we have that ability and like our peace can rest on that person and if not, if they're not willing to accept it, it will still return to you, um yeah, well, I know that we've touched on this a lot in the past couple of episodes because I think it's been on my mind, but I just I really been thinking a lot about how we do hold the power through god and through christ, like to hold power over the devil right, and we hold that power to tell satan no right and to run towards god. Um and uh, I don't know, I think that's, that's amazing and even line. Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this that the Spirit submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
Speaker 1Yeah, I love that it skipped a few verses and went straight to that, because I do feel like in the church sometimes you get caught up in the numbers Like, oh, look at all these people that I converted. Or look at all these people that came to youth group.
Speaker 2Yeah, look at how much power I have essentially.

The Good Samaritan: Loving Your Neighbor
Speaker 1Yeah, oh, yeah, oh, my gosh. And listen, missionary trips are awesome. You do good work, but I always find it so funny, you know, whenever, like, people post pictures and it's like whoa, I didn't even realize you're a Christian, you know. It's like oh, I went to Africa, look at all this good stuff that I did, but I didn't see that in the way that you were living your life here in America. Yeah, a hundred percent.
Speaker 1And so I love that it pointed it out, cause it says okay, well, sure You're right, like, but don't rejoice in the fact that the spirits submit names is written in heaven because of jesus, I agree.
Speaker 2So yeah, that was. That was a good, good little gospel. That's a good one, all right. July 13th oh, that mouse doesn't work. Different computer, july 13th. Uh, luke 10. 25 through 37. Hang on, I'm just realizing this now. This boat, these are both from luke. Uh, luke, 10 yeah that's there.
Speaker 1I think they're all from luke 10 wait, let's see what the right luke luke yeah, they're all from luke very interesting gosh, I hope I copied the right gospels. Well, we'll find out.
Speaker 2If not, let us know hey then this is just a bible study. Just then, a lawyer stood up to test jesus. At least the first one was right, I remembered that one. He said to him what is written in the law? What do you read there? He answered you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind and all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbors as yourself. And he said to them you have given the right answer. Do this and you will live. But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus and who is my neighbor? Jesus replied A man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho fell into the hands of robbers who stripped him, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
Speaker 2Now, by chance, a priest was going down that road and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed on the other side, but a Samaritan, while traveling, came near him and when he saw him he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said Take care of him and when I come back I will repay you whatever more you spend. Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell on the hands of robbers? He said the one who showed him mercy, jesus said to him Go and do likewise, Good Samaritan.
Speaker 2That's what this is called.
Speaker 1I know this one's right too, too, because this was literally. I was at church.
Speaker 2I was there. I don't remember what Father Langenegger's homily was, but I know he had the three S's or something.
Speaker 1I wasn't listening.
Speaker 2It's fine.
Speaker 1Sorry, father Langenegger, but I just I mean, like one of my favorite verses you should love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself. And I just love like the simplicity of it, because that's really just how do you get to heaven?
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Love God, love your neighbor, and I just love that, that's it. Just love that, that's it. You know, like that, yeah, like there's obviously so much depth to that and like the church offers so many resources to do that in the most authentic, genuine way possible, but the ultimate simple truth is do you love god? Yeah do you have a relationship with god and do you love your?
Speaker 2neighbor. Yeah, um, I love the um, the the end, not the very end, but right near the end, after the Samaritan takes him up, puts him to the inn and then says the next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper and said take care of him and when I come back I will repay you whatever more you spend. And I think about that because I feel like there's always this question, especially with Christians, where it's kind of like okay, what's enough? Like how can I be good enough? And I think when you read this gospel and this parable, it's very clear that, like, there's always more to give.
Speaker 2And I think that can be scary because it can feel like, well, I'm going to be taking advantage of. And it's like, yes, correct, like, of course, this guy could be very easily taken advantage of. The Samaritan, you know, very easily could end up coming back and the innkeeper could say you owe me two more denarii, right, um, but that's just, that's just what you do when you love your neighbor, right? When you are a caring person like there's. The answer to the question is have I done enough?
Speaker 2It's always do more you know, love more, care more, and I think that can be scary because it's like holy cow, like I'm already giving a lot. Like you know, I'm trying to love my family, I'm trying to be a good person and be good at work, but the answer is for everyone always it requires more.
Speaker 1Yeah, and I always, you like, I feel like we're the first one to really introduce to me what that looked like, cause I I've always been wary about giving like homeless people money just because of the just like the danger, like the risk, like the stranger danger and I'm a woman, you know like it's scary. I never know what their intentions are, um, and honestly, I like never really looked at them with mercy.
Speaker 1Truly, like it says here, the very last verse, the one who showed a mercy, like go and do likewise. And I don't feel like I had a lot of mercy for people that way, because in my head I'm like well, you got yourself here, like yeah, what is the five? What are you going to do with the $5 I give you? But you were the first one to really introduce to me, like okay, so what, I gave him $5. What he does with that is on him. But I gave him like the money.
Speaker 1I gave him the food or whatever it was, and so I always, always and still to this day struggle with like okay, how do I balance that mindset of giving him mercy and having healthy boundaries?
Speaker 2Yeah, but I also think they're like the giving of money, like if you've got $10 in cash on you, that's an easy thing to give to someone who's potentially in need, and I think one of the things that you taught me is because you used to get really mad when I give people. We've got lots of funny stories about this Really honestly, because a lot of times did it because I was like Uncomfortable.
Speaker 2Uncomfortable, yeah, and you said, okay, if you really want to help them, let's go buy them food. Or if they're saying they need money to buy food, well, let's go buy them food. Or you know, if they're saying they need you know they need money to buy food, well, let's go buy them food, yeah, right, or let's go get them something. And I think that's what I realized I wanted to do. More is, if that's what we want to do, you know, if I want to help somebody, then let's actually help them, let's go that extra mile.
Speaker 2Side note, the funniest story was we went to like a nice restaurant in downtown greenville and I think, what did you have, katie, shrimp and grits left over, and I don't remember it was some sort of like pasta or shrimp and grits. And naturally we like had it in a take home box. And a guy came up to us and asked us like hey, and mind you, this was like a really, really fancy dinner. And he was like hey, like I'm, and mind you, this was like a really, really fancy dinner. And he was like hey, like I'm just trying to find some food, like I need a little bit of money.
Speaker 2And Katie and I were like okay, like you know, we don't have any cash on us, but like, we have these leftovers, like and I want to say you like had barely eaten it, like we had shared another dish or something, something it was a lot of food and it was in really good, good condition. And katie was like, well, you're more than welcome, like I know this is leftovers, so you don't have to take it if you don't want to, but like, you're more than welcome to have like our leftovers. And he was like oh great. And then he opened it and he was like you don't have like a fork or anything, do you remember?
Speaker 1that.
Speaker 2Yeah, we were like this is awkward, I'm sorry, man, like I don't have anything else for you but we should have gone the extra mile and we should have gotten him a takeout for it. I think he was eating it. He had a good time, I mean it was food. Okay, like it was a nice meal so there, you can either decide whether we did the right thing or the wrong.
Speaker 1Yeah, let us know, but the last thing I wanted to say on this is I think, we think, I honestly I think it's easier to be to love your literal neighbor than it is to love the people closest to you.
Speaker 2Yeah, 100%.
Speaker 1Because you don't know them, you don't know their issues, their baggage, you don't know who they are. It's easy to be like giving them, it's easy to give them the benefit of the doubt, but when you have people who you are close with, chances are there are some wounds there, and it's so much harder to show mercy in a place where you are wounded. And I think of this recently, like just this gospel, because I might have talked about this before, but recently had like a confession slash, spiritual direction session with one of the priests here and he introduced me to the prayer. I'm calling it the God of Light Prayer.
Speaker 1I don't know the formal name, but it's basically just a prayer where you're asking God to show you how he sees a specific person or whoever it is that maybe that you were having trouble truly loving and showing mercy to. And it's I mean, it's a super simple prayer. It's literally God of oh, oh, lord, let the light of Christ shine on blank whoever it is, that they may see themselves the way that you see them and that I may see them the way that you see them. So I just feel like that's a helpful prayer If you are in a situation where you're like. I want to be the good Samaritan, but I truly cannot get past some of these wounds and I want to be able to love them well, but I don't know how. It's a very simple prayer that you can offer up every day, anytime, somebody honestly now.
Speaker 1I get to the point where, anytime I feel wronged or struggling with a relationship, I will just murmur this prayer under my breath I'm like God, I'm so angry right now.
Speaker 2May I see you in God's light.
Speaker 1I know, can you imagine?
Speaker 2Yes, yeah, literally I can imagine.

Speaker 2So do you need a?
Speaker 1minute. This is now we're entering territory where we are now speaking about gospels in the future of our current time. So hopefully these are correct. But July 20th, luke 10, verse 38 through 42. Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary, who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Side of the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me. The Lord said to her in reply Martha, martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing and Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.
Speaker 2This gospel is a great gospel has kind of been not ruined for me. Why? But you said why you weren't even by the mic. I heard you. Katie said why. Because there's a Superman versus Batman movie that came out a couple years ago where basically the whole plot hinged on both their moms being named martha, and it just makes me laugh all the time because now I just think about martha yeah, that's how superman and batman stopped fighting.
Speaker 2Spoilers for the like random batman versus superman movie from like eight years ago. Um, but no, I think it's a great verse and I think it shows again. I think a lot of times when people read scripture they're like okay, well, what's the concrete actions I'm supposed to take from this? Like I feel like this doesn't actually apply to my life and I'm like you read this gospel right here. She had a sister named Mary, who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said Lord, you do not care that my sister had left me here by myself to do the serving Right there. That's what you have to do.
Speaker 2Martha, who feels burdened by all the things of the world, feels left behind. Yet Mary, the one who decides to sit next to Jesus and listen to him and to give him time and to speak with him, she is the one fulfilled. Martha is the one anxious. Martha is the one murray, worried. Murray, murray is, are you here? Um, uh, martha is the one worried. Martha is the one who's unhappy right now. Granted, not, probably not cool of mary to be just leaving mar out doing all this work, but I understand where Mary's coming from. She's like this is the most important thing to me, right? And I think that as Christians and as Catholics, it's our job to always choose, to be Mary in that scenario, to always choose. Listen, I know there's stuff going on in the world and there's stuff that's going on that maybe if I just if I let go of my faith for a little bit, I can probably be better at this, or I can probably be a little more worldly successful. But that's not what we're here to do.
Speaker 1Well, yeah, and I think that reading this gospel gives you a lot of context, clues on how to discern your every day. You know, like I'm the kind of person that really needs like a process, Like I can't have somebody just tell me well, just pray about it, Katie. Like I need okay, how do I pray about it? How do I know what the father is saying? How do I hear him? What does he sound like? Like I need context, clues and direction.
Speaker 1And if Martha was my friend and she was telling me what was going on here, I feel like key things I would point out to me was the fact that she felt burdened with serving, Like serving is not a burden. And also, we did not come to serve Jesus. Jesus came to serve us. So there's already tables have turned. That's like problem number one. And then the fact that in her serving, she was not feeling peace. She was not feeling the fruits of the spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, yada, yada, yada. She was feeling anxiety, she was feeling worry, and so those are two big like red flags that I am maybe not doing what I'm supposed to be doing here, but on the flip side, I also feel like Martha gets a lot of crap. She does.
Speaker 1Because Martha's are the way, like the reason the church keeps on going. You know, like the world keeps on turning, like we need the martha's in this world to get martha, is worried she because.
Speaker 2But martha, burdened with much serving, came to him. Lord, you do not care that I am by myself yeah if accusations that's I think that's the distinction like yes, we need martha's in the world and we need a lot of them, because if, if everybody was just mary in this situation, I don't know how much evangel like, the lights are probably off on the church and it's there ain't no ac in there we're all just sitting at the tabernacle, yeah, great which, honestly, maybe that is what we're supposed to do, but we do need the martha's, but she is angry that she's alone yeah
Speaker 2um, and I think it goes back to like this kind of reminds me of, like the prodigal son, where the, the brother that stays, always gets a lot of crap, um, because he was upset. But again you look at it, it's the problem isn't that the brother stayed and had to, like, have come and have some rejoicing, you know ceremony, and coming back to the, you know, back home to the family, the problem is that the brother wasn't just happy that he came home that his brother came home, he felt slighted, he felt jealous, and I think that's the same thing with Martha Even though you could be doing the right thing, if you do it with the wrong, attitude.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's exactly it, her attitude, the disposition of her heart. She could still do all the things that she was doing without the expectation of being affirmed by God Like oh, martha, you're so great. Or like thank you so much for all your serving, yeah or like, without the expectation of Mary. You know like she could look at Mary fondly for for doing, you know, for being there at the foot of the lord like I don't know.
Speaker 1I think that's the key, though. You're right serving with that joy that, that right disposition of heart but also, martha, I'm so sorry you get a bad rep like this is true, um all right.
Persistence in Prayer: Ask and Receive
Speaker 2Next gospel july 27th.
Speaker 2It is holy cow. Oh my gosh. I even read this one and I forgot how long it was. Uh, luke, 11, 1 through 13.
Speaker 2Jesus was praying in a certain place and when he had finished, one of the disciples said to him lord, teach us to pray, just as john taught his disciples. He said to them when you pray, say father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom, come, give us each this day our daily bread and forgive us our sins and we ourselves. Forgive everyone in debt to us and do not subject us to the final test. And he said to them Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to offer him. And he says to him in reply whatever he needs because of his persistence.
Speaker 2And I tell you ask and you will receive, seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you, for everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks, finds, and the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg. If you, then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children how much?
Speaker 1more will the Father in Heaven, give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.
Speaker 2Egg. I wanted an egg, father, I wanted an egg and you handed me a scorpion. Imagine, imagine, what a prank dude. Um. No, I this is.
Speaker 2this is actually an interesting one for me and like I kind of struggle with this reading um candidly, because I I didn't think you were out of breath thank you, thank you, that was so kind of you, um I I think I just struggle with this because I don't know how to interpret the, the second and the third passages. Kind of like the the neighbor who doesn't give the loaf of bread, but if he does get, you know, um, he will get up whenever because of his persistence. And then you counter that with like asking you shall receive, and like.
Speaker 1I know this gospel is very like just pray for good things to happen and they will yeah, I see what you're saying, but and keep praying for them if they don't happen and I think that was what stood out to me is just like the persistence in prayer, because I feel like I'm in a place now where I can appreciate what kind of character persistence produces, like persistence in prayer and not just persistence but like trust in that prayer, and I guess I could see how it's hard, like oh yeah, like you're going to get everything you want, which is not true. But what I do feel like this gospel is saying towards the end is like imagine how much more the Father will give you. So he's not saying the Father is going to give you everything you ask for, but he is saying the Father will give you more than that and give you what you need. And just trusting in that I think is hard, because when we want something, we want it. And just trusting in that I think is hard because when we want something, we want it.
Speaker 1But I think that to me, reading this, the key word was persistence, and how much God wants us not to give up on that prayer, that persistence on handing it over to him.
Speaker 2Persisted in running the race.
Speaker 1Yeah, and handing it over to him time and time again and trusting, like if you ask, you will receive something, like you are going to receive something If you will seek it, if you will open your eyes to the possibility, you will find it. If you knock on the door, the door will be opened. How that happens, I don't know.
Speaker 2But it will.
Speaker 1And I don't know that's what I think I got from this is, you know, that God is good and that there is hope, and I just feel like we kind of came out of a season of that and I'm still trying to cling to that hope too.
Speaker 2No, I mean, you're 100% right and I think where I just still struggle with it and I could probably do some more research on my end and see what, like some of the famous, you know, biblical scholars have said about it. But, like when we asked to get pregnant and ask for a baby, we're asking for a good thing, you know, we're not asking to be rich and famous, we're asking for something holy, for fulfillment of our vocation. And granted, it did happen. So I'm about to kind of prove my own point. But like, we were asking for it and it wasn't happening, you know. And like what if it? What if it never happens? Right, like, and there's a lot of people who you know, it's not even just children. It's finding a significant other, it's finding a career that they like, like they're asking for things that are good, that are holy, that are fulfilling, and they aren't getting them. But I guess your point is it's more about the persistence than it is actually receiving it.
Speaker 1Yeah, and what that produces in your relationship with God. I think God wants that intimacy with us and that's what that persistence gives. You know.
Speaker 2Yeah, 100% Cool, good Gospels.

Marriage Meeting: Last Meal Choices
Speaker 2And we will do it every month because it's going to be every other episode true yeah, um, katie, our marriage meeting this is an easy one. Um, I was watching a youtube video last night and uh, there's this channel on youtube, uh, and it's called last meals and they interview. It's kind of like do you know what hot ones is like? The wing where they eat the spicy wings? Challenge, oh yeah, yeah, um. It's kind of like do you know what Hot Ones is Like? The wing where they eat the spicy wings?
Speaker 1challenge oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2It's kind of like that where they interview celebrities but the gimmick is it's what would your last meal be if you knew you were about to die? What's your last meal? So my question to you, katie, is what would your last meal be?
Speaker 1If I knew when I was going to die, what would I? Eat I feel like that's easy.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1What do you think I'm going to say?
Speaker 2I actually have no idea.
Speaker 1No way, you know the answer to this.
Speaker 2Milkfish? I don't know.
Speaker 1Ew, I love milkfish, but not for my last meal.
Speaker 2I have mozzarella sticks. Sushi oh yeah, like good sushi Like omakase Like omakase, but unlimited. Unlimited. Fatty toro, fatty tuna, that is my expectation for having this after. I have this baby. You can have multiple courses, I know, but like so you're getting sushi. Is there anything else you'd want?
Speaker 1I can choose more.

Speaker 1I thought you said my last meal. Well, no, like these guys eat like I would eat everything, so I wouldn't die. These guys eat like six dishes.
Speaker 2Give me like two more dishes. I know one for sure.

Speaker 2Crab Rangoon.
Speaker 1Just the appetizers for the sushi. Yeah, yeah, I do love Crab Rangoon. Hold on, hold on. Now I got to think about what my other delicacies are. Sushi, for sure. I do love crab rangoon, I think. Indian food I would have a butter chicken, Correct, with some good naan. Yeah, but that might not mix well with my tummy.
Speaker 2Well, it doesn't matter, you're going to die I am going to die.
Speaker 1I'm going to be really sad, though, like if that does happen and I'm about to die and you're bloated, I'm like I have to keep eating. I'm going to die. Like honestly, that's how I feel sometimes now, because I can't eat as much as I like. My appetite is begging me to and I'm like eating, and then I get full and I'm like that's funny so much more. So that would be really a bummer if I was like I'm gonna die, can't eat all this food I love that for you.
Speaker 2Okay, what about you? Um, probably some nashville hot chicken, I'm not sure from where, yet dave's, maybe dave's, maybe raising canes, I don't know, some sort of fried chicken tenders with like some special sauce or something um, sushi for for sure, give me a couple pieces of can we have a sushi date together before we die?
Speaker 1so romantic that is very romantic.
Speaker 2Definitely some fatty tuna. I would want, oh man, definitely some just a little bit of chicken tikka masala with some garlic naan, for sure, that's in there. I absolutely housed that a couple days ago. I want some mint chocolate chip ice cream in a cone, and then I want some raw cookie dough, and then I want a cheesecake. Oh, no, no, no. I want a cookie dough cheesecake.
Speaker 1I didn't do dessert, I didn't think about that.

Speaker 2Correct. And then a Pelican's pina colada with cream.
